Yes, it is possible to get a medical certificate online in Australia.

To get started you can book an appointment with Qoctor, Australia's trusted online doctor service here. Following your video consultation, you can download your certificate immediately, and print it out or forward it to your employer.

At Qoctor, all our doctors are friendly, experienced, based here in Australia and registered with AHPRA. We have been providing quality online healthcare since 2015, issuing medical certificates to employees across a wide range of industries and sectors. A medical certificate issued by a Qoctor doctor will always clearly state the name and signature of the consulting doctor, as well as their AHPRA registration number (if you are considering using any online doctor service, always make sure that the service employs AHPRA registered doctors). The certificate will show the date of the consultation at the top of the certificate and will also state the dates you were unfit for work within the text of the certificate. A certificate can cover you for days in the recent past or future dates, as appropriate and at the doctor's discretion. We even have a "validity" checker to allow employers to verify the authenticity of a certificate if they wish (we never release your private information, just the fact a certificate is legitimate).

These days, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic it is routine for Australian GPs and specialists to assess their patients via video consultation, for all sorts of health issues. You should expect the doctor to ask you some questions about your medical history and your symptoms, just as you would in a regular clinic. This will allow them to assess the cause of your symptoms and the duration of sick leave required. A medical certificate issued via an appropriately conducted online assessment is a legal document, just the same as one you’d receive in a clinic. Occasionally, a doctor may advise that an online certificate is inappropriate or unsafe in certain settings- for example, if they think you need to see a doctor in person for an physical examination.
